In December 2023, the developer of the omnichain protocol LayerZero announced an airdrop of its native token, ZRO.
On May 1, the team took a snapshot and subsequently declared a crackdown on airdrop hunters creating multiple accounts to increase their share of the distribution.
Developers offered users employing Sybil attack tactics (Sybil attack) two options: reveal themselves and receive 15% of the reward, or do nothing and risk being identified by the security system and missing out on the drop. The offer is valid until May 17.
According to Pellegrino, 100,000 ‘Sybil’ addresses have already chosen the first option.
“My intuition suggests that a confirmed dataset of this size will be extremely useful for identifying others using the same software or similar methods. I can’t wait to see the result,” added the head of LayerZero Labs.
He also noted that those ‘Sybil’ users who have not yet revealed themselves still have a chance to accept the offered 15%.
Pellegrino described the outcome of the initiative as “about what I expected,” adding that he is pleased with it.

According to the snapshot, a total of 6 million unique wallets interacted with LayerZero.
Back in November 2023, approximately 40% of the TIA token airdrop from the Celestia platform went to ‘Sybil’ address holders, according to X-explore’s assessment.
