Fuel Introduces Rollup OS Ahead of Mainnet Launch
Fuel, billed as the “world’s fastest modular execution layer,” has unveiled its Rollup OS solution.

Three years ago, Fuel Labs redefined the rollup landscape with Fuel V1, the first optimistic rollup on Ethereum.

According to the developers, this “operating system” is an evolution of the Fuel V1 platform based on Optimistic Rollups. The technology aims to eliminate “critical limitations” inherent in current rollup architectures.
With the mainnet launch scheduled for the third quarter, Fuel will introduce a virtual machine focused on parallel transaction execution. This approach is intended to enhance the system’s scalability.
The project employs “state minimization methods” designed to reduce the data volumes accumulated by nodes. This should also positively impact network performance.
Developers believe these approaches will enable effective scaling of Fuel rollups with minimal operational costs and without compromising security.
“As rollups mature, it becomes clear that an operating environment optimized for their unique requirements is the next indisputable step. Fuel represents this evolution: Rollup OS eliminates critical bottlenecks, ensuring the future of rollup technology and the Ethereum ecosystem,” noted CEO and co-founder Nick Dodson.
Fuel was launched in 2020 as an L2 based on Optimistic Rollups. However, the developers later adopted a modular approach, positioning the system as an execution layer for various blockchain configurations, including rollups.
To ensure parallel transaction processing, Fuel Network utilizes FuelVM—an alternative to the Ethereum virtual machine.
In 2022, Fuel Labs raised $80 million from Blockchain Capital and Stratos Technologies.
Earlier, StarkNet and Celestia partnered to enhance data availability in the Ethereum ecosystem for L3 networks.
