macOS features a privacy protection measure known as Sandbox, which regulates application access to software and data at the kernel level. Applications must first obtain user permission before accessing personal information.

However, until July 5, conversations with ChatGPT were stored in plain text in an unprotected location. Anyone with physical access to the device or through remote attacks could view them.

Following an inquiry by The Verge regarding the issue, OpenAI, the chatbot developer, released an update adding encryption to chats.

In May, ChatGPT became available on macOS for subscribers. On June 25, the tool was opened to all users.

In June, Apple announced the integration of ChatGPT into Siri, iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Elon Musk threatened to ban the company’s devices if this step was taken due to security concerns.
