China Emerges as Leader in AI Adoption, Study Reveals
China has taken the lead in the adoption of generative artificial intelligence, according to a study by SAS and Coleman Parkes, as reported by Reuters.
SAS, a company focused on AI and analytical software development, collaborated with Coleman Parkes, a research firm, to survey 1,600 individuals in executive positions across various industries worldwide.
Among Chinese respondents, 83% reported using generative artificial intelligence, surpassing 16 other countries and regions. In the United States, 65% of those surveyed indicated the adoption of neural networks, with the global average standing at 54%.
The industries examined included banking, insurance, healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail, and energy.
The report also highlights China’s leadership in continuous automated monitoring (CAM).
Udo Sglavo, Vice President of Applied AI and Modeling at SAS, noted that the technology enables the collection and analysis of vast amounts of data on user behavior and communication. This could lead to privacy concerns, as users may be unaware of the volume of data collected and its applications.
“The algorithms and processes used in CAM are often proprietary and opaque. This can make it difficult to hold those using the technology accountable for misuse or errors,” the expert clarified.
Sglavo added that China’s advancements in CAM contribute to its emergence as a global leader in AI technologies.
Earlier in July, a UN report revealed that China outpaces the US sixfold in the number of AI-related patents. Previously, the country developed an AI commander for military simulations.
