Nvidia Delays Release of Flagship AI Chips, Reports Say

Nvidia has informed Microsoft and another cloud service provider of a delay in the release of its Blackwell B200 chips by at least three months, according to sources cited by The Information

The postponement is due to a design flaw discovered “unusually late in the production process.” This delay could affect Microsoft, Google, and Meta, which have ordered chips worth “tens of billions of dollars,” the publication notes.

The B200 processors are an upgrade to the H100, popular among AI developers. The delay means that large shipments are not expected until the first quarter of 2025.

It is reported that Nvidia is currently working on a test run with chip manufacturer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.

“Testing of Blackwell has already begun, and production is planned to ramp up in the second half of the year,” a Nvidia representative commented on the report.

In March, the company announced a new generation of Blackwell AI graphics processors, which offer a significant performance boost.

In June, it became known that the firm is working on a new version of its flagship AI chips for the Chinese market.

In August, hedge fund Elliott Management stated that Nvidia is “in a bubble,” and the AI technology driving the company’s stock price is “overvalued.”

Back in June, the AI chip manufacturer became the most valuable company in the world for the first time.
