Telegram Wallet Users Fall Victim to Phishing Scam

Approximately 10 users transferred funds to compromised addresses listed in a phishing message from the official Telegram Wallet channel. This was reported by the service’s support team.

“Last night, several thousand users received a phishing message from the official Wallet support channel. Unfortunately, a vulnerability was found in the integration of an external service used by the support team, allowing attackers to send arbitrary messages. The team promptly changed all accesses and resolved the issue, so only a small fraction of users received the message,” the publication states.

According to the message, the issue only affected the customer service plugin and did not involve Wallet itself. User funds remain completely secure, the support team added.

“About 10 users managed to send funds to compromised wallets listed in the phishing message. We will fully reimburse the sent funds and conduct an additional review of support service operations to prevent this in the future,” the publication states.

The crypto community noted that Wallet temporarily received a SCAM label from Telegram. The attackers offered users to transfer funds with the promise of doubling their balance.

In May, Wallet announced a change of custodial service provider and a new data collection policy.
