AI Startup Safe Superintelligence Secures $1 Billion Investment
Founded by former OpenAI lead scientist Ilya Sutskever, the AI startup Safe Superintelligence has raised $1 billion. This was reported by Reuters, citing information from company executives.
The funds will be allocated towards developing “safe artificial intelligence systems that far exceed human capabilities,” as well as purchasing computing power and hiring staff. The current team consists of 10 people.
The firm will focus on creating a “small, highly reliable team of researchers and developers.”
Safe Superintelligence has not disclosed its valuation, but Reuters sources indicated it to be $5 billion. Among the investors are Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel, and NFDG.
“It is important for us to be surrounded by investors who understand, respect, and support our mission—to pursue safe superintelligence and spend a couple of years on research and product development before bringing it to market,” noted Safe Superintelligence CEO and former head of AI at Apple, Daniel Gross.
Back in June, Sutskever announced the creation of an AI company. Its co-founders include former OpenAI developer Daniel Levy and Gross.
