Louisiana Approves Bitcoin and USDC for State Services

John Fleming, the Treasurer of Louisiana, USA, has integrated Bitcoin and the Lightning Network, as well as the stablecoin USDC, into state operations.

Residents will be able to pay for services from any wallets. A special service will convert incoming digital assets into US dollars, which will then be credited to state accounts. This will help avoid the volatility of crypto assets.

“We provide flexibility and freedom when interacting with agencies,” commented Fleming.

The integration was carried out by Bead Pay and several other unnamed partners.

At the state level, in 2022, Colorado authorities implemented the ability to make tax payments in the leading cryptocurrency, as well as in Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin. The initiative was led by Governor Jared Polis.

Ohio took a similar step back in 2018, but after 11 months, state authorities closed the web service for paying taxes in Bitcoin due to low demand.

In June, US Congressman Matt Gaetz introduced a bill that would allow federal income tax payments using the leading cryptocurrency.
