Mining Farm Generating $300,000 in Two Years Shut Down in Astana

Experts from Kazakhstan’s AFM are investigating an illegal cryptocurrency mining operation. The farm, comprising nearly 1300 ASIC miners, was operating under the guise of an engine processing centre in Astana.

According to case materials, from 2022 to May 2024, the suspects engaged in mining digital assets without the necessary license. The total value of the cryptocurrency they mined exceeded 143 million tenge (~$300,000).

The unpaid electricity amounted to 25.3 million tenge (over $53,000).

“The farm consumed energy comparable to the monthly needs of a residential area in a large metropolis,” reported the AFM.

Law enforcement seized ASIC miners, industrial cooling fans, and a transformer substation.

In total, seven convictions for illegal digital asset operations were issued in Kazakhstan in 2024. Assets worth more than 1.2 billion tenge (over $2.5 million) were seized.

Earlier, ForkLog reported the discovery of an illegal mining farm with 17 devices in an underground facility in one of Dagestan’s districts.
