Donald Trump Urges Congress to Pass Stablecoin Legislation

U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Congress to pass legislation regulating stablecoins. He made this statement during his speech at the Digital Asset Summit 2025.

According to him, “stablecoins will enhance the dominance of the dollar.”

Trump also criticized banking discrimination against cryptocurrency companies, known in the industry as “Operation Chokepoint 2.0.” Earlier, journalists reported on the president’s plans to put an end to the debanking of industry participants.

“We are ending the regulatory war against cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin, waged by the previous administration, and this includes stopping the illegal Operation Chokepoint. [It] went far beyond regulation […]. Frankly, it was a disgrace. But as of January 2025, all of this is in the past,” he noted.

In his address, Trump promised to make America the “undisputed Bitcoin superpower and crypto capital of the world.” He noted that his administration has already ceased the sale of confiscated digital assets.

“Innovators like you will be able to improve our banking and payment system, as well as contribute to enhancing the privacy, security, and prosperity of both American consumers and businesses,” the president emphasized.

In the last hour, Bitcoin has lost 1.6% (CoinGecko). At the time of writing, the asset is trading around $85,100.

On March 6, Trump signed an order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR), which provides for the storage of assets confiscated by the Treasury in criminal and civil cases. The following day, a crypto summit was held at the White House with the president’s participation, which disappointed investors due to the lack of specifics in the government’s plans for the industry.

In the U.S., there are intentions to introduce a bill aimed at protecting the SBR from potential cancellation by a future head of state.

A survey conducted by Data For Progress showed that 51% of voters do not support the creation of a Bitcoin reserve.
