Dogecoin Day Celebrated by the Crypto Community
On April 20th, the crypto community marks the day dedicated to the pioneer of meme coins — Dogecoin (DOGE).
Dogecoin Day has been celebrated since 2021. The event was humorously linked to the project’s lighthearted nature and memes by coinciding with 4/20 — America’s Marijuana Day.
At the time of writing, the coin’s price remains relatively stable at $0.158, which is 78.5% below its all-time high recorded on May 8, 2021, at $0.7316.
On the same day last year, the price was around $0.16.
Between November 2024 and March 2025, the price of the “first meme coin” rose above $0.45 amid the creation of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, acronym DOGE, led by Elon Musk.
Due to the name similarity and Musk’s past fondness for Dogecoin, rumors arose within the community about a special role for the coin within the department. Later, the entrepreneur distanced himself and the new organization from the meme project, and the quotes returned to around $0.15.
Besides 4/20, the community also celebrates Dogecoin’s birthday — the anniversary of the genesis block release on December 6th.
In March 2025, the asset entered the top three most popular cryptocurrencies for mining in Russia.
