Google Integrates AI Scam Detector into Chrome

Google has integrated a new AI-powered protection mechanism into its Chrome browser.

Chrome just got even better at spotting online scammers. Enhanced Protection mode now offers instant protection against emerging scams, while AI-powered warnings for Chrome on Android keep you safe from malicious notifications.

The tech giant has employed its large language model (LLM) Gemini Nano to protect users from scammers and plans to launch new alerts on Android to highlight spam notifications.

Chrome’s Enhanced Protection mode provides the “highest level of security” against phishing and other online threats. It will warn users about risky websites, including those previously unnoticed.

“The Gemini Nano AI is perfectly suited for this purpose due to its ability to analyze the diverse and complex nature of websites, helping us adapt more quickly to new fraud tactics,” the corporation’s blog states.

The measures extend to notifications that fraudulent sites may send. If the LLM suspects something amiss, Chrome will alert the user to the dubious nature of the messages.

The company also reported using artificial intelligence to combat fraud in search. It detects and blocks hundreds of millions of such results daily.

Google has faced an increase in scammers posing as airline support representatives. It has reduced the number of such unscrupulous users by more than 80%, lowering the risk of encountering a fraudulent phone number in search.

Back in May, Google’s shares fell by 9% after information surfaced online that Apple was “actively considering” redesigning the Safari web browser for AI search.

In April, OpenAI expressed interest in acquiring Chrome.
