
Dark Overlord hacker sentenced to five years in U.S. federal prison
The UK resident Nathan Wyatt pleaded guilty to the theft of personal data and carrying out cyberattacks. He also confirmed his involvement with the hacker group The Dark Overlord, reports the U.S. Department of Justice.

Wyatt said he had been a member of The Dark Overlord since 2016. The hackers gained access to confidential data of American companies, including clients’ personal information, and then demanded ransoms ranging from $75,000 to $350,000 in bitcoins.

Wyatt was arrested in 2017 in the United Kingdom. In 2019, he was extradited to the United States.

After the hacker pleaded guilty, a U.S. court sentenced him to five years in federal prison. He was also ordered to pay nearly $1.5 million in restitution.
