Venezuelan Army Turns to Cryptocurrency Mining

In Caracas, a centre for mining digital assets by the Venezuelan armed forces has opened. The facility occupies space within the Fort Tiuna headquarters.

The military described the mining centre as an example of cooperation with the civilian sector. The video shows that part of the equipment consists of Antminer devices from Bitmain.

Earlier, the Venezuelan National Guard detained a truck carrying 315 Bitmain miners. The military confiscated the equipment because the driver did not have a licence from the National Cryptocurrency Regulator (Sunacrip).

In late September, Venezuela allowed miners to operate provided they held a licence from Sunacrip and joined the national pool.

In November, one of the Venezuelan miners reported that the state-owned electricity company Corpoelec began forcibly disconnecting equipment in the state of Carabobo.
