Blockchain startup Dusk Network becomes shareholder of Dutch stock exchange NPEX

The security-token platform Dusk Network has acquired about 10% of the shares of the SME-focused Nederlandsche Participatie Exchange (NPEX).

The deal was preceded by collaboration on pilot projects to introduce innovations in financial products.

“Dusk Network and NPEX see opportunities to improve the issuance and trading of securities. Security tokens created through tokenization can be sold and traded in small quantities. The costly processes of organizing shareholder meetings and paying dividends are amenable to automation. This will reduce the cost of raising finance and make it more accessible to a larger number of companies,” noted in the press release.

For Dusk Network, participation in the new funding round at NPEX represents a “strategic move”.

“Our experience of the collaboration will allow us to increase the platform’s value in the EU, using our technology and the exchange’s license, the Multilateral Trading Facility (MTF), in line with the European MiFID II directive. In addition to implementing the roadmap, we are considering other opportunities to expand the ecosystem and grow the user base,” said Jelle Pol, managing director of Dusk Network.

In a statement to CoinDesk, a spokesperson for the startup said that as part of the deal Dusk Network acquired about 10% of NPEX’s shares.

Earlier in October, the cryptocurrency exchange INX announced the purchase of the Chicago broker-dealer OpenFinance Securities. In addition to its client base and license, INX will gain an alternative trading system for trading security tokens.

In July, the regulated broker-dealer Watchdog Capital launched a beta platform for security tokens in the United States.
