A decade since the disappearance of Bitcoin’s creator Satoshi Nakamoto

On December 12, 2010, the creator of Bitcoin, widely known by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, posted his last entry on the BitcoinTalk forum. Since then he has never appeared online.

Nakamoto’s last post discussed the issue of DoS attacks on the Bitcoin network:

“Regarding DoS, there is still a lot to be done, but before delving into more complex questions, and if necessary, I will do a quick build… this is version 0.3.19,” wrote the creator of the first cryptocurrency.

Satoshi noted that earlier he and Gavin Andresen had made clear that Bitcoin software could not be considered resistant to DoS attacks.

“This is one of the improvements, but the ways to attack the network are still far more numerous than I can count,” added Satoshi Nakamoto, describing further the technical details of the upgrade.

After stepping away from the project, Satoshi Nakamoto handed management of the project to Gavin Andresen, a former software developer for 3D graphics.

Who is behind the Satoshi Nakamoto pseudonym remains unknown. It could be an individual developer or a group of people.

There are plenty of theories about who exactly created Bitcoin, and not all withstand scrutiny. But one thing is certain: he has managed to preserve his anonymity exceptionally well.
