
Voronezh woman loses 800,000 rubles in bid to profit from cryptocurrency
The Voronezh police opened criminal cases into fraud and theft after a local resident filed a report. She became a victim of criminals in an attempt to profit from cryptocurrency, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs site.
The victim said that an unknown person contacted her, presenting herself as an employee of a financial firm.
The caller persuaded the retiree to earn money — according to the caller, the woman was to transfer funds to various accounts and allegedly profit from cryptocurrency purchases.
The victim installed ‘the apps necessary for operation’ and sent the attackers photos of her passport and credit card.
Over a month, the victim took out several loans totaling 600,000 rubles. Daily, she transferred part of the funds to the attackers’ accounts.
Having transferred about 800,000 rubles, the woman asked about the promised profit. After that, contact with her ceased.
Earlier, a resident of Mezhdurechensk transferred 700,000 rubles to a fraudulent Bitcoin exchange.
