Dissertation council members at Moscow Pedagogical State University accused of bitcoin bribes

Law enforcement officials have accused members of the dissertation council of Moscow Pedagogical State University of taking bribes. According to investigators, the bribes were paid exclusively in bitcoin, according to the Telegram channel Baza.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the chair of the council, Elena Levanova, together with colleagues received money from young researchers for help in defending their dissertations. The funds were transmitted exclusively in cryptocurrency.

During searches at Levanova’s home, cash sorted into envelopes was found, intended for the university leadership.

A criminal case has been opened against Levanova. She is charged with a bribe of 156,000 rubles, allegedly received “for a favourable decision on a certain dissertation”.

Earlier in September, the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ narcotics-control department in Khakassia was found guilty of receiving a cryptocurrency bribe worth 52,000 rubles and of disclosing state secrets.
