Tezos Ukraine to host DeFi development hackathon with top prize of $7,000
From February 26 to 28, Tezos Ukraine will host an online hackathon for developing decentralised finance applications #TezosDeFiHackathon. The prize fund will be $15,000, and the top prize will be $7,000.
\n
Registration closes on February 26 at 16:00 Moscow time. Individuals and teams may participate.
\n
“We are hosting an online hackathon to build more useful products for Tezos’s growing ecosystem. The winners will be covered in Tezos’ global communities with 130,000 followers,” say the organizers of the hackathon.
\n
Participants can apply for grants from the Tezos Foundation, and winners will meet key ecosystem organisations: TQ Tezos, Tezos Foundation and Tezos Commons.
\n
Hackathon theme — decentralised finance
\n
In 2020, users blocked $15 billion in DeFi applications. This was 20 times higher than in 2019. In February 2021, the amount locked surpassed $40 billion.
\n
The Tezos network is also seeing more DeFi applications: the number of smart-contract calls in January rose 135-fold compared with 2020. And the number of active users, according to Baking Bad, is growing at an average of 7.8% per month. The ecosystem now counts about 1 million accounts with non-zero balances.
\n
Organisers are hosting the hackathon, because the Tezos community needs useful DeFi products.
\n
The prize pool will be split between two categories: ‘Own Idea’ and ‘Challenge’. A participant may win one prize in a category; for example, if the team ‘Cosmic Kittens’ takes the first two places, it will receive $7,000.
\n
Directions for own ideas:
\n
- \n
- AMM;
- liquidity pools;
- collateralised assets;
- derivatives;
- synthetic assets;
- yield farming.

- \n
- NFT marketplace;
- a decentralised fund like MolochDAO;
- DEX with an order book and without AMM;
- a bridge between Ethereum (ERC20) tokens and Tezos (FA2);
- Tezos ⇔ Ethereum atomic swaps on L2;
- DEX liquidity aggregator: QuipuSwap and Dexter.

Mentors will be Tezos developers
\n
MadFish Solutions and Baking Bad proposed the challenges. Participants from these teams will serve as mentors at the #TezosDeFiHackathon.
\n
MadFish Solutions are developing the Thanos wallet, the QuipuSwap decentralised exchange and a transpiler from Solidity to Ligo Sol2Ligo. Previously, the team won the first East European Tezos hackathon. CEO Matvey Sivoraksha told the Tezos Foundation in an interview why the team chose Tezos.
\n
“We first got to know Tezos at the East European hackathon. Six people from our company split into three teams and started working on different ideas. Thus the Thanos wallet, the QuipuSwap decentralised exchange and the Solidity-to-Ligo Sol2Ligo transpiler were created. We placed first and third and received an invitation to participate in the grant program. We liked Tezos’ functional programming style, and we decided to continue developing these solutions”.
\n
Baking Bad — developers of the Tezos smart-contracts explorer Better Call Dev, the blockchain explorer TzKT and the Atomex wallet. And the team also regularly receives grants from the Tezos Foundation to develop new solutions.
\n
Mikhail Degtyarev, lecturer of the free online course on smart-contract development on the Tezos platform and blockchain developer at Attic Lab, will also serve as mentors. The course is available at online course.
\n
The hackathon is also supported by ForkLog, the largest Russian-language media outlet on crypto and blockchain.
