
Hacker demanded bitcoins to decrypt a company’s files in Zarechny
Law enforcement in the town of Zarechny has begun examining a complaint filed by the director of one of the firms. He says he has fallen victim to a hacker demanding cryptocurrency.
According to local publication, citing a statement from the Interior Ministry, the attacker gained access to the organization’s server. For decrypting the files and restoring the server, the hacker demanded 0.4 BTC.
A criminal case has been opened for unlawful access to computer information. An investigation is ongoing.
According to data from Group-IB specialists, from November 2019 to November 2020 hackers carried out more than 500 public attacks using ransomware. Damages exceeded $1 billion.
