Optimism developers delay mainnet launch

The Optimism project, behind the development of the Ethereum Layer 2 solution L2 Optimistic Ethereum (OΞ), has ruled out launching the mainnet in March.

According to the developers, the initial schedule for deploying the contracts was not workable and caught many projects by surprise.

“An uncoordinated leap into L2 without sufficient community preparation is dangerous,” the blog says.

The team said that the mainnet launch is tentatively planned for July. The final date depends on the stability and readiness of the ecosystem.

Optimism is developing a solution based on [simple_tooltip content=”The technology bundles several transactions into one, reducing the load on the main Ethereum network”]Rollups[/simple_tooltip]. Analysts at Messari believe that the technology will preserve Ethereum’s edge in the transition to ETH2, despite the emergence of promising alternatives.

In February, venture firm Andreessen Horowitz led a funding round for Optimism worth $25 million.

Earlier, the synthetic-asset platform Synthetix carried out a preliminary launch of OΞ.

In March, the developers of the non-custodial exchange Uniswap promised to implement Optimism’s second-layer solution for scaling shortly after the release of the protocol’s third version.
