Coinbase hires former SEC official to engage with investors.

Former director of the SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets, Brett Redfearn, has taken the post of Coinbase’s vice president for products and capital markets.

The appointment came ahead of Coinbase’s stock listing via direct listing on the Nasdaq exchange. In the run-up to this event, the exchange faced regulatory scrutiny and paid a $6.5 million fine.

Redfearn is set to be responsible for formulating and implementing the strategy to establish a global standard for crypto capital markets, including digital asset-backed securities and the trading platform.

According to the WSJ, the executive’s responsibilities also include foreign exchange operations, brokerage and custody services.

At the SEC, Redfearn led a 250-person division and drafted rules for cryptocurrency markets. Before that, he spent 13 years at JPMorgan.

Former SEC chief Jay Clayton joined the advisory council on regulatory matters at hedge fund One River Asset Management.

Earlier, Binance hired two former heads of the Financial Measures Group for Combating Money Laundering as advisers on regulatory compliance and regulation.
