
SpaceX to launch Doge-1 satellite to the Moon; mission paid for in Dogecoin
Elon Musk said that in 2022 SpaceX will launch the Doge-1 satellite to the Moon. According to him, the mission is fully paid for with the meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin.

Musk also attached a humorous video in which, among others, Dogecoin is supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Barack Obama.
“The first cryptocurrency in space. The first meme in space. To the mooooonnn!!”, wrote SpaceX’s chief.
The Canadian Geometric Energy Corporation plans to launch the satellite with a Falcon 9 rocket in Q1 2022. Doge-1 will collect data about the Moon.

On May 8, Musk appeared as host of the comedy show Saturday Night Live. At the end of his appearance, he invited his mother, Maye Musk, on stage for Mother’s Day and joked that her gift would be Dogecoin.

Musk, playing the role of a “typical” financial expert Lloyd Ostertag, asked to be called the “dogefather” and explained more about the meme cryptocurrency.

Dogecoin price fell 25% to below $0.50. At the time of writing, the digital asset traded at around $0.53. The cryptocurrency’s market capitalization stood at $69 billion, according to CoinGecko.

On the eve of Saturday Night Live’s appearance with Musk, Barry Silbert, founder of Digital Currency Group, announced opening a short position on Dogecoin and pledged to donate the proceeds to financial education.

Silbert also pledged to donate $1 million to charity if Dogecoin reaches $1 by May 31.

forecasted the rise in the price of Dogecoin to $1. In his words, the meme cryptocurrency is better suited than Bitcoin as a means of payment, because it makes it easier to conduct transactions.
