Kazakhstan Sets Timeline for Pilot Launch of Digital Tenge
The National Bank of Kazakhstan plans to launch a pilot project for the introduction of its own digital currency in the second half of 2021, said the head of the National Bank Yerbolat Dosaev, according to местные СМИ.
He emphasised that the final decision on the issuance of the digital tenge would be taken after studying its advantages and risks, impact on monetary policy and financial stability of the country.
Earlier, the National Bank of Kazakhstan allowed the issuance of its own digital currency last year.
In early May 2021, the regulator published a report on the digital tenge for public discussion.
