NEAR Protocol developers launch Ethereum layer-2 protocol
The NEAR Protocol team announced the launch of the Aurora layer-2 protocol to interact with the Ethereum blockchain.
Aurora isn’t #NEAR, Aurora is here!🎉 Aurora gives you an #Ethereum Layer-2 protocol experience that provides developers and users the experience of Ethereum on top of NEAR Protocol.

The solution allows developers of decentralized applications (dapps) on the NEAR platform to leverage the capabilities of the second-largest cryptocurrency network with lower gas fees and fast transactions, according to a press release.
To ensure seamless interaction, Aurora combines two core technologies: a fully functional Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and a cross-chain bridge based on Rainbow Bridge.
According to the statement, the solution supports an average transaction cost of a few cents, bypassing Ethereum gas fees that had reached record highs. The protocol also speeds up transactions ‘radically’.
“Aurora allows developers to deploy existing NEAR ecosystem smart contracts in Solidity and Vyper without changes, while users can seamlessly access these applications using MetaMask and other Ethereum wallets,” the press release stated.
Earlier, the mainnet launch of NEAR Protocol occurred in October 2020.
