Donald Trump: Bitcoin Looks Like a Scam Competing with the Dollar

Former U.S. president Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox Business, said that the first cryptocurrency ‘looks like a scam’.

“I don\’t like it [Bitcoin], because it\’s another currency competing with the dollar. […] I want the dollar to become a global currency. That\’s what I have always said,”

In 2019, Trump first spoke about Bitcoin and Libra (now Diem). In his view, their value is extremely volatile and largely unbacked.

Later, former U.S. national security adviser John Bolton wrote in his memoirs that Trump had expressed his aversion to digital gold as early as May 2018.

In April 2021, 46,694 tweets by the former president were put up for auction as non-fungible tokens.
