Iranian president calls for a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies

To safeguard national interests and citizens’ capital, Iran must move quickly to develop a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, заявил President Hassan Rouhani.

At a meeting of the Coordination Council for the Economy under the Cabinet, he noted that it is important to prevent ‘unprofessional entry’ into the sector because of the high risks.

“For the legalisation of activity in the cryptocurrency sector and the protection of people’s capital in this area, we must think about a solution as soon as possible, as well as develop and disseminate the necessary laws and instructions,” Rouhani said.

The head of state emphasised the need for regulators to cooperate with the media and representatives of the crypto industry to raise public awareness about digital assets that comply with the laws and instructions.

He confirmed that until September 2021, the banned mining of cryptocurrencies.

As noted, Iran maintains a ban on operations with cryptocurrencies mined outside the country.
