Putin calls accusations that Russia’s involvement in cyberattacks on the United States a farce

Claims of involvement by Russian hackers or the Russian government in cyberattacks on American organisations and companies are a ‘farce’, said Russian president Vladimir Putin in an interview with NBC News.

He called such assertions unfounded:

“We were accused of everything — interference in elections, cyberattacks, and so on. And not once did they bother to provide any evidence or proof. Just unfounded accusations.”

Putin also urged the United States to join forces with Russia in the fight against cybercrime.

Earlier last year, following the SolarWinds attack, many American government systems and companies were affected. The attack was attributed to Russian hackers.

In February, Microsoft said they possess evidence of Russia’s involvement in the attack on U.S. systems.

In May, news emerged of the Colonial Pipeline breach. It was reported that the attackers behind it, DarkSide, may also be linked to Russia.

Later, the world’s largest meat-processing company, JBS, was hacked. The White House said the breach was most likely the work of a Russia-based hacking group.

According to media reports, due to a series of ransomware attacks, investigations of similar incidents in the United States received the same level of priority as terrorism cases.
