Duck Farm on the Blockchain: Waves Launches Waves Ducks Collectible Game

On 12 April, Waves founder Sasha Ivanov sold the digital duck “Perfection” for $1 million. The token is part of the Waves Ducks game. In it, users grow NFT ducks, breed them and receive unique tokens.

Waves Ducks rules and genesis-token creation

Waves Ducks is a collectible blockchain game in which users assemble NFTs with images of ducks. The duck’s appearance depends on its genotype.

Genotype is the set of token attributes that includes:

• 8 characters from A to H. They determine the shape of the head, eyes, beak and other parts of the body;
• letters from G to Z. They show which generation the duck belongs to. For now the game supports generations up to the letter L;
• symbols R, G, B and Y. They denote the background color: red, green, blue and yellow.

Ways to create NFTs in Waves Ducks:

• send EGG tokens to the incubator — the smart contract for hatching ducks;
• breed two NFT ducks on the site Waves Ducks.

The cost of issuing ducks increases with the number of NFTs in the game. At the time of publication, users pay 3.1 EGG to create a duck. For more on incubator tokenomics — in the Waves Ducks blog.

Waves will release 1 million EGG. The project will distribute tokens among ecosystem users, participants in the referral program and those who help promote Waves and Waves Ducks.

The incubator locks EGG and returns genesis tokens to users. These are ducks with the standard genotype:

• with identical attributes such as AAAAAAAA or BBBBBBBB — all parts of the duck’s body belong to the same collection;
• genesis generation identifier G. It indicates that the duck originated from the incubator;
• a random background color.

At present, Waves Ducks offers five genesis ducks: featuring Elon Musk, Satoshi, Doge, Bogdanoff and Chad. Waves will add new genotypes every few weeks.

Breeding, Trading and Staking Ducks

Users can create unique individuals by breeding ducks on Waves Ducks. These ducks inherit parts of their parents with a 50% probability. The generation indicator changes to the next letter of the alphabet. For example, breeding G- and K-ducks yields an NFT with generation L.

Breeding ducks can be done once. After breeding they become sterile.

Recently Waves zапустил farms — duck staking to earn EGG. Users buy perches for 1 EGG and place ducks with a specific background on them.

Farm profit depends on the duck’s uniqueness and the total number of ducks on perches. According to Waves, a duck with 100% uniqueness can earn up to 313 EGG per year. At the current EGG/WAVES rate this equals $41,000.

Waves calculates the uniqueness of a set using the formula: (1 / number of ducks with the same genotype) * 100%;

Example: a user bred ducks with genotypes AAAAAAAA and BBBBBBBB. They obtained an NFT with genotype ABAABBBB. The Waves Ducks script recorded the genotype in the format “3A5B”, and then checked the Waves blockchain and found three ducks with that genotype. The duck’s uniqueness was: (1 / 4) * 100% = 25%.

Users can trade ducks on the маркетплейсе Waves Ducks. It automatically calculates the token’s uniqueness and allows filtering ducks — by uniqueness, generation and breeding capability.

Conclusions

Waves Ducks resembles CryptoKitties and other collectible blockchain games. It features standard tokens, genotypes and breeding. Yet Waves has made Waves Ducks more accessible: users can earn EGG for social-media activity for free.

Duck farms will create a market for sterile parent ducks with low uniqueness, and allow players to earn from staking NFTs. This should provide additional liquidity to the EGG market and reduce the influence of speculation on token prices.
