PNY to release Chia-mining SSD with write endurance up to 54 petabytes

PNY has announced the release of new solid-state drives characterised by high write endurance and high throughput, designed to meet the demands of hardware used for mining the Chia cryptocurrency.

The lineup comprises the LX2030 model with a 2 TB capacity and two LX3030 units with 1 TB and 2 TB respectively.

The endurance of the standard 2 TB version is 10,000 TBW. For the 1 TB LX3030, this figure reaches 27,000, and for the 2 TB version — 54,000 TBW.

According to the manufacturer, the high figures were achieved thanks to Lifextension technology, which enables managing the drive via AI algorithms to identify and rectify errors more rapidly.

The M.2 2280 form factor drives are equipped with PCIe Gen 3 x4 interface. Read speed of the LX3030 reaches 3200 MB/s, write speed 2400 MB/s. For the LX2030 the maximum values are 3200 MB/s and 1000 MB/s, respectively.

The manufacturer did not disclose prices.

Earlier in June, PNY reduced the lifespan of the XLR8 CS3030 SSD series due to Chia miners. The endurance of some models fell by almost 80%.

Earlier, the cloud service Backblaze conducted calculations showing that even with free disk space, mining Chia would become unprofitable as early as the fourth month.
