Cosmos developer sets release date for Emeris cross-chain token transfer app

The Cosmos Network team has entered the final stage of developing a cross-chain interface for the Emeris platform. Its public launch is expected in mid-August. This was stated by Denis Fadeev, Head of Developer Experience at Tendermint Inc., during the online conference Alt Season 2021 on ForkLog’s YouTube channel.

Emeris will provide users access to a broad spectrum of decentralized applications—from lending and yield farming to NFT marketplaces, payments apps and data storage—in a single interface.

One of the project’s main features will be the ability to transfer assets cross-chain using the Cosmos Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.

“Token trading is the most in-demand feature among users. Now they will be able to move tokens between blockchains literally with a single click,” Denis Fadeev said.

The main part of Emeris runs in the browser, and the first public version in this sense will be centralized. However, the developer did not rule out that in the future the app could be moved to the Akash Network cloud-hosting platform.

“Emeris is a good candidate for a smooth transition to Akash. It’s a really cool system that we want to move Cosmos blockchain nodes onto.”

What is Cosmos (ATOM)?

In July, Emeris beta was released, in which developers focused on cross-chain operations for the DeFi segment. The initial lineup of supported chains includes Cosmos Hub, Crypto.com, Akash Network, IrisNet, Persistence, Osmosis, Regen Network and Sentinel.

Going forward, the list of networks will grow. Outside the Cosmos ecosystem, attention is primarily on the Ethereum blockchain. To this end, a Gravity Bridge will be implemented, enabling tokens to move between Cosmos and Ethereum chains.

The developers will also introduce a mobile app and their own browser wallet — the beta version supports only Keplr Wallet.

Back in March, Tendermint announced the launch of the Fund for Supporting Promising Projects on the Cosmos blockchain, with a total of $20 million.
