The Foundation was founded in 2014, but later ceased operations.
Among the Dogecoin Foundation’s advisers are Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, longtime associate of Elon Musk and head of his family office Jared Birchall, one of Dogecoin’s co-founders Billy Markus, and developer Max Keller.
According to the statement, the organisation plans to:
- accelerate Dogecoin development by hiring new staff on a permanent basis;
- continue protecting the Dogecoin brand and logo;
- present new projects for the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
The Dogecoin Foundation is resuming operations on a volunteer basis, but plans to fund the team and the developer group through ongoing sponsorships.
“Our primary objective is to secure a three-year budget so that we can recruit a minimal staff to improve Dogecoin on a full-time basis, without worrying about employment guarantees,” the statement said.
In March 2021, the Dogecoin developers updated the client software for the first time in a year and a half.
