Dutch central bank says Binance is not registered

The Dutch central bank (DNB) warned consumers that the cryptocurrency exchange Binance provides services in the country without the necessary registration.

According to the regulator, the company is thus in breach of the anti–money-laundering and counter-terrorism financing act. It did not specify whether any claims would be brought against the exchange.

Update:

In a comment to The Block, a Binance spokesperson said the company is aware of the DNB notice.

“As part of our commitment to doubling our efforts to comply with regulatory requirements, Binance is in the process of applying for the necessary registration,” he said.

Earlier, the UK Financial Conduct Authority prohibited Binance Markets Limited from any regulated activity in the country without prior written approval.

The Cayman Islands began reviewing the exchange’s operations, Thailand and Hong Kong accused the company of operating without a license, Japan issued it another warning.

Polish regulators warned consumers about the risks of dealing with the platform, and Italy and Malta — about Binance’s unregulated activities.

At the end of July the Malaysian Securities Commission announced enforcement action against the trading platform for “unlawful management of a digital asset exchange”.

Binance hired a former criminal investigator for the U.S. Treasury, Greg Monahan, as an anti–money-laundering officer.
