Nokia’s US subsidiary SAC Wireless hit by Conti ransomware

SAC Wireless, Nokia’s US subsidiary, заявила that data had been breached following a Conti ransomware attack.

The breach occurred on June 16. The attackers stole personal information of current and former employees, including names, dates of birth, contact details, passport data, digital signatures, salary information, tax returns — totaling more than 250 GB.

“Conti operators gained access to SAC systems, uploaded files to their cloud storage, and then encrypted the files in SAC systems,” the company said in a notice to an unspecified number of victims.

The attackers threaten to publish the employees’ data publicly if they do not receive a ransom. The amount is not disclosed.

SAC Wireless continues to investigate the incident.

The Conti ransomware operation is allegedly controlled by the Russian cybercriminal group Wizard Spider.

Ransomware victims include Ireland’s Department of Health (DoH) and Health Service Executive (HSE). The latter was asked to pay a ransom of $20 million.

In May, the FBI warned that Conti operators were attempting to breach the networks of more than a dozen American healthcare and emergency services organizations.

As reported by Ransomwhere, in 2021 more than $33 million in cryptocurrency was sent to addresses linked to ransomware operators.

To combat hacker attacks, U.S. authorities plan to track cryptocurrency transactions on cybercriminal wallets.
