Tennis star Naomi Osaka eyes Dogecoin and cryptocurrency investments
Former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka is exploring opportunities to invest in the cryptocurrency industry. Part of her interest was sparked by the buzz around the meme token Dogecoin, according to Bloomberg.
“Actually I was just talking about cryptocurrencies with my agent. I know that their online presence is growing. I remember reading about Dogecoin,” she said in an interview with the publication.
Osaka noted that the ongoing chatter around the token, especially on Twitter, drew her attention even before her agent approached her with the idea of investing in digital assets.
The 23-year-old athlete actively invests the earnings from her professional tennis career. Among her investments are the Sweetgreen dessert chain and the womens soccer team North Carolina Courage.
She has also released her own collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

“Our athletic careers aren’t that long, so we want to handle them sensibly. I like it when my agent tells me there are investment opportunities. And, somewhat surprisingly, I enjoy enduring small setbacks, because that helps understand what didn’t work and why,” Osaka said.
The tennis player is a four-time Grand Slam champion. In January 2019 she topped the world rankings in singles. Over the course of her career Osaka has earned around $19.9 million in prize money.
Back in 2019, Serena Williams, who has 23 Grand Slam singles titles, disclosed her investments in Coinbase, the Bitcoin exchange.
However, in 2020, on the tennis player’s venture fund site, information about the American company disappeared as a portfolio.
