Fraudsters announce Bitcoin giveaway via hacked Ryazan city administration site
The Ryazan city administration’s website was hacked. The attackers posted on the page what appeared to be a Bitcoin giveaway, local media said.
To receive the coins, users were asked to download a dedicated app. Initially, the attackers promised 0.025 BTC to each downloader, and later announced a $1,000 giveaway among five randomly selected people.
At the time of writing, the advertisement has been removed.
Scammers frequently stage fake cryptocurrency giveaways, often using the names of celebrities—for example, Google founder Sergey Brin, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, or Tesla chief Elon Musk.
