Ukraine’s NSDC to join international fight against ransomware operators

The National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (NSDC) said it is prepared to engage in international cooperation to combat cybercrime. сообщила the press service of the agency.

Representatives of Ukraine among 30 countries took part in the online platform Counter Ransomware Initiative, notably devoted to countering ransomware operators and the laundering of funds through cryptocurrencies.

Deputy Secretary of the NSDC, Serhiy Demedyuk, said that Ukraine’s efforts to combat online crime are reflected in the recently adopted Cybersecurity Strategy.

ForkLog sought comment from the NSDC, but as of writing had not received a response.

\n\n

According to FinCEN, data show that in the first six months of 2021, exchanges and other institutions sent to ransomware operators transactions of for $590 million. The agency did not specify what share of this amount went to cryptocurrencies.
