
Liquid to offer Japanese clients crypto-derivative trading
Liquid’s Japanese subsidiary, QUOINE Corporation, has been licensed to trade financial instruments on the local market. The regulator’s approval will allow it to offer cryptocurrency derivatives to retail and institutional clients.

According to the press release, on October 26, QUOINE Corporation was registered as a Type I Financial Instruments Business (Type I Financial Instruments Business). Under Japanese law, this license covers a broad range of operations—from trading derivatives on the market to underwriting securities and arranging OTC-deals.

\”The approval of the Type I licence is the culmination of extensive preparation and collaboration across the Liquid team. It also confirms that trading cryptocurrency derivatives can be conducted in compliance with the law and with full customer protection,\” said Liquid’s Chief Operating Officer Set Melamed.

In August 2021, Liquid reported a breach of hot wallets, with hackers withdrawing digital assets from the platform worth $80 million.

In the same month, the bitcoin exchange raised $120 million in debt financing from the operator of the crypto-derivatives platform FTX.
