Venezuela Seizes More Than 100 Bitcoin Mining Devices

Authorities in Venezuela seized more than 100 Bitcoin mining devices in the Palo Verde residential area (Miranda state) for illegal mining, according to Morocotacoin.

A joint inspection by the police, Sunacrip and the National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC) was prompted by elevated electricity consumption.

The mining farm operated illegally — without the necessary Sunacrip approvals. In a similar operation, authorities identified and seized 165 miners in the Zamora municipality of the same state.

All equipment was seized for preventive purposes and remains at Sunacrip’s disposal, the publication said.

Police emphasised that they would continue to conduct raids to identify illegal mining farms.

The law enforcement agency, in cooperation with Sunacrip and CORPOELEC, organised several events in various states to clarify the legal norms of mining.

Earlier in July 2020, the Venezuelan National Guard confiscated 315 Antminer S9 devices.

In November, CORPOELEC began forced shutdowns of miners at the government’s request, while the country’s army began mining digital assets.
