Yakutian woman loses 6.5 million rubles to scammers in crypto-trading scheme
A resident of the village of Nizhny Kuranyakh became a victim of scammers who, posing as managers of an investment platform for cryptocurrency trading, defrauded her of almost 6.5 million rubles. According to МВД.
After speaking with a man named Vasily Petrov, who presented himself as a platform manager, she installed an app purportedly to track her cryptocurrency transactions and a Qiwi wallet, to which she transferred funds.
Subsequently, the woman’s accounts on the platform were blocked, and unlocking them required payment. The victim borrowed 1.3 million rubles from relatives, but she never managed to regain access to the accounts.
After realizing she had fallen victim to scammers, she reported the case to law enforcement.
Earlier in Kalmykia, more than 1.4 million rubles were extorted from a resident under the guise of providing brokerage services on a “cryptocurrency exchange.”
