Avast analysts forecast a rise in hacker attacks targeting Bitcoin holders
In 2022, hackers will significantly enhance ransomware programs and carry out more attacks on the cryptocurrency market, including using malware for mining. Avast researchers said this, пишет TASS.
According to experts, the rise in cryptocurrency prices will continue to attract hackers to the industry.
“Since cybercriminals always go where there is money and where they can earn, they will continue to spread malware for the most varied cryptocurrency schemes,” Avast said.
The most common mobile threats next year, according to analysts’ forecasts, will be adware and banking trojans.
Because advertising apps cannot always be identified as malicious, despite their aggressive behaviour, they have become an effective tool for cybercriminals.
Speaking of banking trojans, researchers suggested that criminals would include additional features that could provide remote control over infected devices.
Attackers will continue to target companies whose employees work remotely due to pandemic restrictions. Avast experts expect the use of audio deepfakes in phishing attacks. With their help, criminals can impersonate a CEO or another employee, attempting to gain access to confidential data or to the company’s network.
According to FinCEN data, in the first half of 2021 exchanges and other organisations sent more than 635 reports of suspicious operations related to ransom payments to ransomware operators. They contained information about transactions worth $590 million. This was 30% higher than in all of 2020.
According to Positive Technologies’ findings, in 2021 Russian companies began paying more ransoms to ransomware operators.
