Survey shows Australian share of crypto investors climbs from 18.4% to 28.8%

The share of Australian residents who have purchased or continue to hold cryptocurrencies rose over the year from 18.4% to 28.8%. The results are contained in PureProfile’s survey commissioned by Australian exchange Independent Reserve.

The survey involved more than 2,000 people. According to the firm, the sample reflected the country’s gender, age and geographic distribution.

89% of crypto investors earned from trading digital assets in 2021. In 2020, 78% reported a positive experience.

89% of Australians have heard of Bitcoin. 36.7% had heard of Ethereum (23.5% a year ago), and Ripple — 20.3% (13.5%).

Bitcoin appeared in the portfolios of 21.1% of respondents, Ethereum in 11%.

The share of crypto investors among women rose over the year from 10.3% to 20%.

Independent Reserve CEO Adrian Pshelozny in an interview with Cointelegraph predicted that the rise in crypto holders would continue as the industry matures and price volatility subsides.

Among respondents who had not adopted cryptocurrencies, 28.6% said they would close the gap once consumer protection improved, 26.6% — if industry regulation is strengthened.

In Pshelozny’s view, creating a regulatory framework similar to Singapore’s would attract more conservative investors, including residents over 65.

Among Australians aged 24 to 34, 27.6% said their crypto investments were driven by the desire to earn money.

As reported in Grayscale Investments’ report, 26% of US investors have already invested in Bitcoin, with more than half becoming holders in the last year.

According to Pew Research Center data, since 2015 the share of American adults familiar with the first cryptocurrency has increased from 48% to 86%.
