Mining equipment stolen in Irkutsk region through roof hole
In the Shelekhovsky District of Irkutsk Oblast, police uncovered a series of thefts of cryptocurrency mining equipment. This was reported by the local Interior Ministry.
According to investigators, in September unknown individuals entered a private plot in the village of Baklashi. They cut a hole in the garage roof, opened the sliding gates, and stole devices worth 200,000 rubles.
The following morning, investigators detained three men aged 28 to 49. One of them lived on a neighbouring street to the victim and knew that the latter was involved in mining. A search of his home yielded the stolen equipment.
Subsequently, law enforcement established the suspects’ involvement in four additional thefts of ASIC miners worth a total of 1.5 million rubles from private residences.
Criminal cases have been opened. By court order, the accused have been remanded in custody.
Earlier, ForkLog reported that 16 residents of the Irkutsk region gave scammers 2.5 million rubles in an attempt to start mining.
Since the beginning of 2021, the region has recorded around 250 thefts of equipment for cryptocurrency mining. Total losses have exceeded 76 million rubles.
