Three men detained in Irkutsk over theft of 15 Bitcoin miners

Irkutsk police detained three local residents suspected of stealing cryptocurrency mining equipment, the press service said.

According to investigators, the suspects broke into a country house and stole 15 ASIC miners worth 750,000 rubles.

Reviewing surveillance footage, authorities determined that the suspects arrived in a taxi service vehicle in which one of them worked.

During searches of the suspects’ apartments, police found and seized the stolen devices.

The detainees were three men aged 20 to 22. One of them had previously known the victim, knew how to access the property and where the equipment was stored.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the theft.

Earlier in 2021, the Shelekhovsky district police of Irkutsk Oblast uncovered a series of thefts of cryptocurrency mining equipment. Some of the devices were removed through a hole in the garage roof.
