Survey shows 77% of Ukrainians have a cryptocurrency wallet

The popularity of digital currencies in Ukraine is growing—the country’s residents are becoming fluent in the terminology and actively creating crypto wallets. A Gradus Research survey indicates as much, a document in ForkLog’s editors’ possession shows.

The survey was conducted on January 13, 2022, via an in-app questionnaire. It involved 1,000 respondents. Based on this figure, the sample cannot be considered representative.

According to analysts, 20.7% of Ukrainians aged 18 to 24 bought cryptocurrencies and participated in ICO.

More than half of the respondents—55.9%—know what cryptocurrency is, and 5.1% have already worked with digital assets or blockchain.

The most popular operation for Ukrainians is opening a cryptocurrency wallet. This was done by 77% of those involved in the crypto industry.

Every second Ukrainian familiar with digital currencies bought or exchanged them on an exchange.

The least common use among respondents was for gaming—18.9%.

Real-world goods were purchased for cryptocurrency by 31.5% of Ukrainians. Residents of smaller towns were more likely to pay for goods this way.

As reported in Chainalysis’s 2021 Global Crypto Adoption Index, Ukrainians took 4th place, although in 2020 they led the list. Researchers attributed the loss of position to reduced transaction volumes on P2P platforms.

They also found that 87% of all cryptocurrency sent from Ukraine goes to foreign addresses.
