
In Kazakhstan, authorities shut down 13 illegal mining farms during raids
During inspections, Kazakh authorities identified and shut down 13 illegal mining farms. This was reported on the Ministry of Energy’s website.
The farms were found in the Karaganda Region, Pavlodar Region, Turkistan Region, Akmola Region and Kostanay Region, as well as in Nur-Sultan, Almaty and Shymkent.
Their total power consumption amounted to 202 MW.
According to the local Financial Monitoring Agency, during a search in Almaty more than 700 mining devices were found and seized. In Nur-Sultan, authorities identified 159 Bitcoin miners.
The mobile task force to identify and shut down cryptocurrency mining farms will continue its work, the Ministry of Energy said.
Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered to identify all mining farms and raise the tax on cryptocurrency mining.
Authorities created an interagency group, led by the Tax Committee, to fight illegal miners.
