Taproot support added to the LND Lightning client

Developers at Lightning Labs released a beta version of the LND client for the Lightning Network with support for some of the latest Bitcoin protocol improvements, including Taproot.

In addition to the ability to transact from Taproot-form addresses, the LND 0.15 release includes features such as:

  • new remote procedure call (RPC) methods to support the experimental MuSig2 multisignature;
  • roughly 95% reduction in database size by reducing the revocation information stored in logs. This helps save disk space;
  • an improved variable pathfinding, enabling payments to reach their destination faster at the lowest cost;
  • a new neutrino subserver, expanding developers’ toolset.

Senior Product Manager at Lightning Labs Michael Levin noted that LND 0.15 helps make the Lightning Network more “reliable, resilient and secure”.

In the Bitcoin network, the Taproot activated in November 2021.

Earlier in April, the Lightning Labs team introduced the Taro protocol for launching stablecoins on the Lightning Network.
