Epic Games Store chief backs NFT games

Epic Games Store chief Tim Sweeney says NFT projects will continue.

The head of the Epic Games Store, Tim Sweeney, said that the digital video game store does not plan to abandon projects using non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In response to a Twitter user’s call to “get rid of every such game in the store,” Sweeney clarified the company’s position.

“Developers should be free to decide how to build their games, and you are free to decide whether to play them. I believe stores and operating system makers shouldn’t interfere by forcing their views onto others. We definitely won’t.”

The CEO of Epic Games Store weighed in on this after Mojang Studios, the studio behind Minecraft, said that do not support and do not allow the integration of blockchain and NFT technology into the game.

Earlier in October 2021 Valve Corporation banned blockchain games with cryptocurrencies or NFTs on its Steam store. At that time, Epic Games Store said it was open to such projects.

In January 2022, the French game giant Ubisoft faced a negative user reaction to its attempt to launch NFT platform Quartz.

In April 2022, Epic Games closed a $2 billion investment round. The funds will be used for metaverse-related projects.
