Compass Mining to install 25,000 Bitcoin miners in Texas

The supplier of equipment and services for Bitcoin mining, Compass Mining, has reached an agreement with Compute North to provide 75 MW of capacity at the blockchain hosting provider’s data center.

Compass plans to deploy 25,000 ASIC miners at a facility in Granbury, Texas. Installation will begin in August and will take several months. The equipment includes latest-generation devices such as the Antminer S19 XP, Antminer S19j Pro, and Whatsminer M30S++.

Compute North’s data center is powered by the Wolf Hollow natural-gas-fired combined-cycle power plant with a capacity of 1.1 GW. The hosting provider has a 300 MW agreement, with the possibility to increase to 600 MW.

Compute North uses containerized solutions from RK Mission Critical of Colorado to house the miners. Each container holds about 560 devices, with 2 MW of available power per container.

The provider collaborates with many public mining companies, including Marathon Digital Holdings. Compass’s equipment also operates at the Compute North facility in Nebraska.

In June, hosting provider Dynamics Mining terminated the agreement to host miners with Compass, citing unpaid invoices.

In late June the mining company fired CEO Witt Gibbs and CFO Jodi Fischer.

In July, Compass’s new management announced the layoff of 15% of staff and cost reductions.
