Cardano team postpones activation of the Vasil hard fork

Developers postponed the activation of the Vasil hard fork on the Cardano network. According to the CTO of IOG, Kevin Hammond, the team wants to ensure that all parties involved are ready for the upgrade.

“Obviously, it may still take a few weeks before we move to the actual implementation of Vasil. This is incredibly important. All users must be ready for the hard fork so that the process goes smoothly,” Hammond said.

He also noted that IOG is focusing on addressing some issues in the testnet, gradually moving toward the release of Cardano software version 1.35.2. The new client fixes a number of issues identified during testing, including those related to decentralized applications.

“The goal is to fix the final issues as the hard fork approaches. We are fixing tester-focused features so that everything is correct and not rushed,” he added.

Vasil comprises four improvement proposals for the Cardano network, aimed at reducing transaction fees and increasing network security. The update will also simplify interactions with the project’s smart contracts.

Initially, the hard fork was planned to activate at the end of June 2022, but then the date was postponed to the following month.

In July, developers deployed the Vasil upgrade on the Cardano testnet.
